Derbyshire site manager wins prestigious industry award

A site manager who is building new homes in Ripley has won a highly coveted industry award.

Ashley Chell, 33, who is responsible for construction at Ashberry Homes’ Amber Rise development in Ripley, has received a Quality Award in the National House Building Council’s (NHBC) 2022 Pride in the Job competition.

The winners of the awards were announced on Friday 17 June following a year-long judging process by officials from the NHBC.

The Pride in the Job Awards were established over 40 years ago and honour the achievements of truly exceptional site managers as well as driving excellence in the housebuilding industry.

Ashley said: “It is a great honour to have been recognised by the NHBC for this award, and to have been rewarded for all the hard work my team has put in since I became site manager at Amber Rise in February last year.

“I have great pride in what I do, and there really is no better feeling than overseeing a build on site from start to finish and ensuring that we do not stray from the high standards expected from each and every one of us.”

Ashley was only relatively recently appointed to the role of site manager at Amber Rise, having left his former position as a site manager with another housebuilder just 18 months ago.

He said: “Since then, it has been a personal career goal of mine to strive to be recognised by the NHBC and to win a Quality Award, so I am delighted to have achieved this within such a short space of time.

“I am looking forward to continuing my work at Amber Rise along with my team and to hopefully winning a Seal of Excellence later this year, which would really be the icing on the cake and would cap off what has been a focused effort from all of us on site over the last 18 months.”

Paul Coleman, Managing Director for Ashberry Homes East Midlands, said: “Winning an NHBC award in any year is a fantastic achievement, but the challenging circumstances faced by our site managers over the last 12 months give this year’s award a special significance.

“This honour highlights Ashley’s steadfast commitment to the highest building standards that we set ourselves as a company.

“Ashley and his team have displayed a high degree of consistency and excellence in delivering new homes for our customers at Amber Rise, and we are immensely proud of and thankful for their continued application and professionalism. We would like to wish Ashley the best of luck for the next stage of the NHBC awards later this year.”
