North West-based company Collect Art, home to a unique collection of pieces created by well-known artists from across the UK and abroad, is inviting members of the public to the art gallery to celebrate the extraordinary life of prolific artist Geoffrey Key, as he celebrates his milestone 80th birthday.
The 3-day event will take place from Friday, 12th November – Sunday, 14th November at Collect Art, located at 29 The Cross, Lymm, Cheshire, WA13 0HR.
Geoffrey Key, a widely acclaimed artist and unsung hero of Salford, has built up an international reputation with a career spanning over six decades and counting. Recognised for his individual and diligent expression of form, light and colour, his strong, dynamic figures and dreamlike compositions have earned him many admirers. Key’s work features in private, public and corporate collections worldwide including Salford and Manchester Art Galleries, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, Jockey Club of Hong Kong, Societe Roquefort, Chateau de St Ouen and Perrier. Key’s paintings have been performing exceptionally well with one piece recently attracting a price substantially above retail value at auction. There is significant demand for his work, and a 20×24” painting by Key currently retails at over nine times more than it did in 2004.
During the 3-day event, Collect Art will be displaying some of Key’s finest work from over the decades. Visitors are invited to view a handpicked selection of paintings created by one of the most prominent contemporary artists in the UK. The artwork on show will be a variety of pieces produced during different periods of Key’s career and viewers will also have the opportunity to purchase his exclusive pieces.
Martin Heaps, founder and owner of Collect Art, commented: “This will be our first in-person event at the gallery since the start of the pandemic, and we are excited to be marking this momentous occasion with a celebration of one of Salford’s greatest artists.
“This is a chance for us to retell the story of Geoffrey Key’s illustrious career producing some of the finest paintings known to the Modernist art world. His work is currently selling for values equivalent to that of the renowned LS Lowry when he was at a similar point in his career, so from an inflation point of view, Key’s work is on the same trajectory and is certainly one to keep an eye on. The event will be a great opportunity to acquire one of his paintings.”
A limited number of paintings will be available to purchase at the gallery over the weekend, starting Friday at 10am.
Collect Art specialises in Modern British artists and houses work by some of the most well-known nationally and internationally acclaimed artists such as Theodore Major, Peter Howson, John Bellany, LS Lowry and Frank Auerbach.
The gallery also offers a sourcing service so if you haven’t quite found what you are looking for or have something specific in mind, the team will help locate it for you.
