OIX’s Identity Trust Conference to clearly outline how digital ID benefit these two areas
As digital ID is implemented across borders, industries and functions, the OIX Identity Trust Conference 2022 taking place on September 29th in London will host two essential panels to explore and explain the vast benefits and potential for digital ID in the areas of age verification and employment vetting.
Moderated by Don Thibeau, Executive Director of the OpenID Foundation, the Age Panel will include Dr Rachel O’Connell from Trust Elevate, Iain Corby from Age Verification Providers Association/euCONSENT and Asad Ali Principal Technologist for Digital ID from OFCOM.
They will discuss the drivers for age verification, including reducing online harms, the benefits of digital ID for age verification and the multitude of age-related use cases that will become seamless experiences in the near future. The panel members will also provide their views on how age verification has progressed in regulation and legislation in the UK, the EU and the US.
Nick Mothershaw, Chief Identity Strategist at OIX, said: “Digital ID will dramatically enhance and improve the experience for consumers trying to access age-controlled goods and services. For them access will be instant, without the need for disclosure of sensitive information, such as date of birth or address, which could place them at risk of ID fraud or worse.
“Providers of age-controlled goods and services will be able to easily meet their regulatory obligations and in a way that doesn’t cause friction or place them at risk of losing their customers. Particularly in a face-to-face context, like at a supermarket self-service till, where customers have to wait for someone to come and confirm their age.”
Moderated by Jonathan Evans from Digidentity, the Employment Panel will include Lee Hughes from First Advantage, Phil Graham from the NHS, Mark Sugden from DBS, John Harrison from the Home Office (Asylum, Protection and Enforcement Directorate) an early adopter employer (to be confirmed).
They will provide a vital discussion around the objectives of the UK’s DBS and Right to Work schemes, how Digital ID is being used to enable employee mobility in the NHS, the importance of certification to the UK trust framework, the challenges they are trying to solve, the progress so far and what remains to be addressed.
Nick continued: “The challenge of onboarding new employees quickly is one faced by all sectors. Whether it is healthcare or construction, getting people into roles quickly may be vital and current processes can take weeks. During this time those needing care are suffering or competitors are moving their fully staffed projects along at speed. Digital ID will allow applicants to instantly prove who they are, that they have a right to work and that they have the relevant qualification to do the job.
“But it must be done to the right standards. The two UK schemes that will be discussed in details – DBS and Right to Work – have been introduced to define these standards and will be the first schemes to leverage certification to the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework.”
This year, the Identity Trust Conference will be sponsored by VISA, Sopra Steria, Digidentity and OneSpan, and is being held in media partnership with Biometric Update. It will take place on Thursday 29th September 2022 at the QEll Centre in London, UK. The cost to attend the conference is £99 plus VAT.
